ELL Program
The English Language Learner program (ELL) at Island Lake and Turtle Lake elementary schools provides service to students who were born outside of the US, or speak a language other than English at home, to further develop their English language proficiency. The EL staff provides quality language instruction embedded in academic content to English learners (ELs) of all proficiency levels to ensure success in grade level content standard in the general education classroom.
Our Instructional Model
The ELL program is build on the goal of helping ALL of our students succeed in their general classroom and overall language acquisition. As part of our goal the ELL staff do our best work to meet the individual learning needs of each student. Our model includes the following forms of instruction:
- Push-in: the ELL teachers work with the students in their general classroom during mainstream instruction. In this way the students are with their peers.
- Pull-out: the ELL teachers work with the student(s) outside of the general classroom to supplement and support the general classroom conduct.
